“All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.”

And shook her yellow head,
And whispered to her neighbor:
“Winter is dead.”

“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”…
“It is the sun shining on the rain and the rain falling on the sunshine…”

Definition of Spring:
verb (used with object), sprang or, often, sprung; sprung; spring·ing. “to cause to fly back, move, or act, as by resiliency, elastic force, a spring, etc.: to spring a lock.“– www.dictionary.com
noun “a time or season of growth or development specifically : the season between winter and summer comprising in the northern hemisphere usually the months of March, April, and May or as reckoned astronomically extending from the March equinox to the June solstice.”– merriamwebster.com
My schedule for the month’s of April and May have changed quite a bit, as you can imagine. Right now, we are all experiencing shifts in our normal routines. For many of us, vacations have been canceled, schools and businesses closed, and everyone is trying to work together in one house.
Needless to say, the past couple of weeks have not been what any of us have expected. With so many changes, it can be hard to stay focused and maintain a regular routine. I will do my best to get a mythology post out soon. I am also working on a new creative endeavor that I hope you will all enjoy learning about in the near future.
As I mentioned in my previous post, Author
Stay safe and keep being awesome,

Author T. S. Lieber:
I’ve been writing since I was an early teen. Fantasy novels and science fiction were my first loves. I would read anything with an elf or wizard in it. I wanted to create the next great Tolkien world. As I grew older, I branched out to suspense and mystery novels. I also realized that books weren’t only about the great battle or cool swords. Stories were about people and how they grow, change in direct consequence to the world around them. They didn’t always grow in a positive way, but that’s part of being human. It’s these contrasts in the human dilemma that make me want to write. We’ve all experienced them and can relate to the shadow on the soul or the angel on the shoulder. Nothing makes me happier than when a reader asks me how soon the sequel will be out.
I’ve lived in upstate New York my whole life, but my wife and I enjoy traveling and experiencing new cities. I actually went on a tour of the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California in preparation of writing the scenes set in Book IV. I have also been to Las Vegas numerous times and those travels inspired setting Book V in its limelight. My novels are suspense driven and the current storyline is supernatural in nature. But I have ideas for stories about AI, Kings battling giants to save their realm, and what it’s like to sell a little piece of yourself for money and those who love you anyway….
The inspiration for Mortuary came from an old Peter Straub novel. This book titled, Floating Dragon made me wonder what it would be like to mix d
emons in a suburban town of wealthy humans. I wanted to turn their worlds upside down and change the perceptions of their entire lives up to this point.
I envisioned Mortuary as a stand alone novel. It was the story of Dr. Gabe White who is getting divorced, has a teen-age son, and his best friend is his medical partner. It’s a normal, affluent life until new neighbors move in and strange happenings start to affect the town. People start dying gruesome deaths and when it touches Gabe’s family he is forced to confront an ancient evil to save his loved ones… before they lose their souls.
Mortuary ended with a cliff hanger and fans, mostly my family, started asking when the second book was coming out. I had another novel completely in mind, but the more reaction I received, the more I contemplated what a sequel, or trilogy, would entail. I decided since Gabe’s personal growth came to a conclusion, the unfolding story of demons in paradise could continue a number of years later with his son, Mark, being pulled into the fray. A new generation of the family discovered the demons who frolicked in their own backyard. I conceived the name, Cemetery Road, because of Mark’s visits to his grandparents’ graves and a turning point in the story which took place among the headstones.
For the third book, The Eye’s Mote (The Tale of the Three Sisters), I used the same formula which seemed to work so well between books one and two and set it a number of years later, so a third generation of Whites could tell their tale of coming face to face with an ancient evil. The idea for Mark’s triplets formed in part from Clive Barker’s Weave World.
They are three teens who realize their own dark heritage with the onset of puberty. Their transformation effects those around them. Vanessa struggles with the feelings within her while Anna embraces them. It is a coming of age novel… for those touched at birth by the Devil. The title not only eludes to the triplets who are the force which drives the story, but to the judgment they instill in themselves and others as they make choices to reject their baleful heritage or accept it.
I enjoyed writing a trilogy of three generations battling evil, in the demons invading their lives and within themselves. But the story line didn’t come to a conclusion at the end of the third book. What’s natural after a trilogy? A sextet.
I decided in order to finish the storyline I needed to have the final three books to be successive in time, in contrast to the generation-spanning trilogy which started Hell’s ascent on earth.
Book IV, The 7 Devils of Mary Magdalene, centers on June Hunter, one of Mark’s three daughters in his second marriage. She is living the carefree college life with her friends, completely oblivious to her family’s history of demon hunters, when the past comes calling.
Terrance Diamond, the original devil who her grandfather, Gabe White, entrapped in a “shadow ball,” has a legacy to fulfill. I decided as the books unfolded that the storyline would take on a bigger stage. Terrance Diamond morphed into the Anti-Christ and the race was on in Biblical proportions. Terrance’s followers are searching for the shadow ball, a pink baseball-sized sphere inlaid with silver, the bane of demons, to set him free and path the way for Armageddon. Gabe’s descendants are unwilling defenders of the world’s end. Their strength lays in secrecy. Nobody knows who has hidden the shadow ball or where. The agents of evil are on a scavenger hunt across the globe for their master’s prison, deciphering rumors and clues to usher in a new age, one where evil will reign and he… or she… who discovers the shadow ball will rule by the Anti-Christ’s side.
Book IV was an older story I revamped for the sextet. The title comes from June’s possession by her enemies, an ancient spell to bring her under their power. Mark’s original daughters, the triplets, have come into their own, and they are Terrance’s hell hounds, killers seeking the shadow ball in his name. Not all have given up on them. Troy is Vanessa’s childhood sweetheart and he refuses to believe in the seductress she has become her lips lethal, killing with a kiss all at the behest of Terrance Diamond’s legions. Troy will stop at nothing to cure Vanessa… or die with her.
In Troy’s quest he is led to the college students and helps rescue June from her demon. In Book V, As It Is In Heaven, Troy continues his quest to save his one true love and stop Armageddon. Mark and his three daughters from his new marriage are still the targets for his original triplets. As is his new wife. Olivia is singled out by Vanessa as seductress and is wooed in search of the shadow ball. Mark must rescue his wife as he tries to keep his daughters safe in their new home of Las Vegas. After all, what better place to hide and seek the harbinger of Armageddon than Sin City…?
I am currently writing Book VI in the series, Last Rites. Over the decades many characters over come and gone, died and returned, all in the ultimate battle of good vs. evil. If you enjoy an epic war with characters being charged for better or worse by the life forced upon them, I hope you’ll give Mortuary a try. It all starts in a little resort town in upstate New York and ends on a world stage. The only question left is: who wins?
Stay tuned for Book VI.
