Autumn Creativity

Autumn has arrived and I am ready to watch some hair-raising movies, read some frighting stories, visit a corn maze or two, carve a few pumpkins, and put out my creepiest Halloween decorations. How about you?

I really enjoy finding different ways to express my creativity and since I had a ton of fun creating the skull fire ring last year, for this post I decided to continue the tradition and share a new project for the Halloween season.

Below I have created a tutorial for an Illuminated “candle” craft decoration. It is relatively simple to make and looks pretty convincing, which is why I thought it would be perfect for this post.

Eerie Candle Craft:

Step One:
Preparing-

To start, since the LED candles would be inserted into the tops of the noodles, I used a leftover piece of pool noodle from on old project to determine the depth and angel to cut the ends that would be upright.

Then, after gathering my tools and supplies, I placed cardboard down in my work area to protect surfaces from paint.

I had only managed to find a few LED candles that were black so I gathered the rest and spray painted the bases so that they would blend in better at the end of the project.

Step two:

1. ) I started with four pool noodles and I used a serrated knife to cut the noodles to various lengths. My goal was to create two separate candle clusters that could be fitted together depending on how I wanted the room to be decorated, so I put them together a few different ways before deciding that in order to achieve this, I would need to add more sections. Luckily I still had a few more leftover pieces from another project.

2.) I used rubber bands to hold them in their positions until I was sure I had achieved the shapes I wanted, then added hot glue to permanently affix them together.

3.) Once the “candles” were secured, I added trails of Elmer’s glue to help make it appear that the “wax” was melting as a real candle would.

4.) After the glue had hardened, I coated the noodles with several layers of spray paint.

5.) When the final paint layer was dry, I inserted the LED candles.

Final thoughts

The more creative projects I do, the more inspired I become! I had a lot of fun constructing these eerie candles and they look pretty convincing alongside my ghouls and zombies.

If you would like to try some other seasonal tutorials, check out the dismembered body parts, spider egg sacks, or Snake Wreath projects that I shared in these previous posts: Book Charms and Updates, updates-quotes-and-halloween-ideas, fearing-snakes.

I hope that you enjoyed this artistic endeavor! Stay safe and keep being awesome. Happy Haunting!
